In a busy medical practice, keeping track of patient information, workflow reminders and team communications can be challenging.
MEDENT offers a variety of note types designed to help your practice stay organized, provide personalized care and streamline communication. Understanding the difference between Sticky Notes, Group Sticky Notes, and Area Notes ensures you’re using them effectively.
Sticky Notes are patient-specific and user-specific, meaning only you see them. They are not exported as part of the patient’s chart.
How to use them:
Personal touch: Record details that help you connect with patients, like “Patient is getting married next month.”
Sensitive information: Discreetly note sensitive topics to avoid causing distress, e.g., “Patient is a recent widow — avoid mentioning spouse.”
Workflow reminders: Keep track of tasks for a specific patient, e.g., “Confirm referral was faxed.”
Benefit: Sticky Notes help you stay organized while providing compassionate, individualized care.
Group Sticky Notes are patient-specific but visible to all users who have the Group Sticky Notes sidebar gadget enabled. Like Sticky Notes, they are not exported as part of the patient’s chart.
How to use them:
Team-wide reminders for patient care, e.g., “Patient requires interpreter — face patient, speak clearly.”
Important patient-specific instructions that the whole team needs to know, e.g., “Patient prefers afternoon appointments.”
Benefit: Group Sticky Notes ensure the whole care team stays informed, creating smoother, more coordinated patient interactions.
Area Notes are not patient- or user-specific and are visible to all users in a given area with the sidebar gadget enabled. Each area can have a unique note.
How to use them:
Departmental reminders, e.g., “Update insurance eligibility daily” for Billing or “Check fax inbox” for Reception.
Seasonal or time-sensitive alerts, e.g., “Flu vaccines are in 💉” or “Flu clinic dates: Oct. 1–15.”
Benefit: Area Notes keep entire teams aligned on workflows and updates, reducing mistakes and missed communications.
By understanding and using Sticky Notes, Group Sticky Notes and Area Notes, practices can improve workflow efficiency, strengthen team communication and provide thoughtful, personalized patient care. Each type of note serves a unique purpose, and knowing when to use which one ensures you’re maximizing the value of MEDENT’s note features.
