What is CommonWell?

CommonWell is a Designated Qualified Health Information Network (QHIN). As a QHIN, CommonWell facilitates exchange of electronic health information using the guidelines defined by the Cures Act in the Trusted Exchange Framework and Common Agreement or TEFCA. CommonWell is also a Carequality Implementer.

What does this mean for your practice?

As medent onboards with CommonWell, medent practices will have access to additional CommonWell data sources via the Community Chart and will also be able to interact with the Carequality network for Treatment purposes. CommonWell will take on the role of Implementer for your practice’s Carequality endpoint, and the CommonWell Master Patient Index will be used in place of the Surescripts Record Locator and Exchange interface. Participation in CommonWell will help simplify the exchange of health information with other practices, providers, and health networks.

As practices are able to complete an additional vetting process, there will also be support for the TEFCA-Treatment Purpose of Use that will allow for broader connectivity. Use of the TEFCA-Treatment would allow for practices to further connect with other QHINs such as eClinicalWorks, Epic Nexus, Surescripts, and others. For full list and more information on the TEFCA initiative, please see: https://rce.sequoiaproject.org/designated-qhins/

All practices, including those already using Community Chart, will be asked to sign off on a new No Charge Community Chart Quote with the CommonWell Health Alliance® End User License Agreement (EULA), CommonWell Additional Terms and Conditions, CommonWell External Transaction Services Terms and Conditions, Carequality Connection Terms, and TEFCA Flowdown Terms attached. By signing off on the quote, it is an acknowledgement that the office will abide by the required terms and conditions for CommonWell, Carequality, and TEFCA Services.

Please note that the terms of the agreement cannot be altered by medent or the Practice.

What does the practice have to do for Community Chart access?

Please follow these instructions to submit a new Support ticket.

Visit https://www.medent.com/log-a-support-case

Under Area of System – select Carequality / Community Chart > Community Chart Activation

Subject: Community Chart Activation

Description of Support Inquiry: Please send the updated Community Chart quote for CommonWell Health Alliance connectivity.

Note, when entering information, please provide the email address for the best contact to sign and return the No Charge Community Chart Quote.

What can the practice do if they would like to participate in TEFCA-Treatment Exchange?

If the practice would like to participate in the additional TEFCA-Treatment Use Case, you will need to gather required information based on what Type of Provider/Organization the practice falls under as well as which Path defined by the vetting process.

Additional information will be coming soon on how to submit information to medent if your practice would like to be onboarded for TEFCA-Treatment exchange purposes. For now, please review the RCE information on this page under the Exchange Purposes (XP) Implementation SOPs to see the Vetting Process and what Path your office may fall under: https://rce.sequoiaproject.org/tefca-and-rce-resources/.
